Oracle Has Customers Over a Barrel - BusinessWeek
via businessweek.com
Supplier power is undoubtedly getting stronger in the enterprise software space. This is a classic example of where a disruptive business model (i.e. cloud computing) has the potential to make a material change. This article also has some good summary metrics on Oracle’s M&A impact to its business..

Yosemite
Here are a few panoramic pictures created with the iPhone app “AutoStitch”. We hiked from the Yosemite Valley floor to Merced Lake on Friday, then to Sunrise Camp on Sat, and finished at Lake Tanaya (Tuolumne Meadows) on Sunday. I highly recommend the High Sierra camps as a way to experience Yosemite! «HiketoNevadaFalls.jpg» «SunriseHighSierraCamp.JPG» ...

Baseball Tickets Too Much? Check Back Tomorrow -... →
This is pretty interesting. In baseball it could make a lot of sense given the number of games along with a variety of factors (opposing pitchers, team, record, weather, day of week, give-aways, etc). It will be interesting to see how much buying patterns change if at all as this gets widely adopted. Essentially, to what degree is there price elasticity to the baseball fan?

McKinsey: What Matters: Getting history right →
I agree that a Great Depression is much less likely today than in the post World War period. This article does a good job of describing the political drivers of the Great Depression. While today’s recession is not so much politically driven, we still face a wide ranging failure of financial instruments independent of any single economic driver (i.e. Word War). As such, the main question...

Liftopia’s Ski-Lift Ticketing System Begins To... →
A variable pricing model applied to ski lifts. Could be interesting. As long as this does result in lower fees for the consumer (relative to traditional prices) then it could work. I like how this is attempting to leverage the optimal pricing model for the ski resorts. The main difference between the ski resorts and the airlines is that the airlines have a huge variable cost with each flight. ...
